Disclosed is a compound of formula I, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof, wherein B is adenine, guanine, cystosine, uracil, or thyamine, and R1 is cyano, azido, or fluoromethyl. Also disclosed is a compound of formula II or II, wherein R1 is alkenyl, alkynyl, cyano, azido, or fluoromethyl. Also disclosed is the use of either compound for treating viral infections such as an HCV (hepatitis C) infection.
