A tie bag with a hem seal that forms a hem flap

Disclosed is a tie bag which includes a container portion and a hem seal at the mouth of the bag. The hem seal is for gripping the top of a receptacle when the tie bag is used as a liner for the receptacle so as to avoid having the mouth of the bag fall into the receptacle. The hem seal forms a hem flap, which is cut in a geometric pattern to provide tie fasteners. The container portion is defined by a pair of side walls which are joined to each other along a pair of opposing sides and a bottom bridging the opposing sides. A top portion of each respective sidewall is folded over towards the bottom and joined to its respective sidewall by the hem seal so as to form the hem flap. The geometric pattern of the hem flap includes a pair of tie fasteners joined by a bight. The hem seal may be disposed below the bight when the top sidewall is folded over towards the bottom.
