Disclosed is a process for the manufacture of a compound of formula (V) comprising a) reaction of a compound of formula (II) wherein each R1 is independently selected from (1-6C)alkyl, and R is selected from (1-6C)alkyl, (3-6C)cycloalkyl or aryl(1-6C)alkyl; with a compound of formula (III) in the presence of titanium (IV) catalyst of formula (IV) wherein each R2 is independently selected from (1-6C)alkyl and the binaphthyl moiety is in the S-configuration), an alkali metal halide salt and an amine, in an inert solvent. Also disclosed are a number of 4(4-fluorophenyl)-6-isoproylpyrimidine derivatives.
