Provided is the use of metal ion-saturated lactoferrin or a metal ion-saturated functional variant or fragment thereof in the manufacture of a composition for increasing the responsiveness of a subject to a cancer therapy. Metal ion can be iron. Specific diseases to be treated are recited, as well as specific levels of ion saturation.
