PURPOSE: A key management system and a method thereof are provided to determine whether or not an accepted key is legal. CONSTITUTION: A key detector(11) detects the extraction of a key holder from a key storage case or the return of the key holder to the key storage case. A storage unit(16) records the extraction and the return of the key holders of the key storage case. A key management controller(13) manages the extraction of the key holder and information on a certified user, manages the return of the key holder, and records the extraction and the return of the key holder.
