There is disclosed a tinting bowl device (10) for use with hair treatment substances. The device includes receptacle in the form of a base bowl (12) and a plurality of receptacles in the form of liners (20) nested within the interior of base bowl. The base bowl has a lip (16) which extends around the interior to form a rim. Each receptacle that has a receptacle immediately below it is detachably fixed to that receptacle.
