Provided is the use of a composition comprising a peptide amphiphile in the manufacture of a medicament for treating a damaged spinal cord nerve in a subject, wherein the composition is administered to the spinal cord of said subject to improve neuron growth and reduce astrogliosis in said subject; and the peptide amphiphile, comprising a linear hydrocarbon chain of six to sixteen carbon chains, a structural region comprising the sequence SLSL, and a functional region comprising IKVAV or YIGSR. The composition may be coadministered with other agents, e.g. nerve growth factor and caridotophin-1. |
