<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an image suppressed in blur and noise even if a failure of position adjustment is estimated. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus adjusts positions of a short-exposure image and a proper-exposure image so as to cancel positional deviation between both the images on the basis of image data of the short-exposure image based on exposure for a relatively short exposure time and the image data of the proper-exposure image based on exposure for a relatively long exposure time and then composites both the images to generate a corrected image which is suppressed in blur and noise. The image forming apparatus is provided with an estimator (57) for estimating whether or not the position adjustment is successfully performed. If it is estimated by the estimator that the position adjustment may be failed, only the photographing of the short-exposure image is performed and image deterioration (blur) is then given to the short-exposure image by filtering processing to generate a dummy proper-exposure image that simulates the proper-exposure image.
