<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of wrinkles and crease and further printing disturbance by changing setting in a fixing device by the kind of recording paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The CPU of an image forming apparatus executes a program including a step (S102) of detecting the kind of the recording paper, when copying is started (YES in S100), a step (S104) of determining whether the recording paper is an envelope or not, a step (S106) of determining whether the envelope is thick or not, when the recording paper is the envelope, and steps (S108, S110, S120, S122, S130, and S132) of setting press-contact release motor rotation time and fixing motor speed correction, based on the determination that the recording paper is the envelope which is thick, the envelope which is not thick or just the recording paper.
