<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circumference monitoring device for a vehicle for enhancing the accuracy of detection of obstructions present around the vehicle, by eliminating an erroneous obstruction detection component owing to road surface reflection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The circumference monitoring device for the vehicle, which includes each sonar 7, 8, 9, 10 mounted on the vehicle body, and an obstruction detection controller 12 for catching a reflected wave of a spherical transmission wave emitted from each sonar 7, 8, 9, 10 to detect obstructions existing around the vehicle, includes an attitude sensor 11 for detecting an installation attitude of each sonar 7, 8, 9, 10. Based on the detected attitude of each sonar, the obstruction detection controller 12 sets the shape of a threshold pattern for removing reflected waves from a road surface, to a shape determined in line with a characteristic of road-surface reflection intensity which changes with the attitude of the sonar, and an obstruction is detected by removing the threshold pattern set from the characteristic of road-surface reflection intensity by the captured reflected wave.
