A backlight unit (49) wherein a light-receiving surface (RS) is formed on a part of a lateral surface (21S) of a light guide plate (21) so as to face a light-emitting surface (11L) of an LED (11).  The light-receiving surface (RS) is positioned in a corner (21C) of the light guide plate (21), and at least two corners (21C) next to each other in the light guide plate (21) have the light-receiving surface (RS).
