<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of prolonging the life of a conveying roll, especially, by preventing the fatigue breaking in roll neck parts of the conveying roll. <P>SOLUTION: By installing an ultrasonic flaw detecting probe 6 on the roll surface in the vicinity of the roll neck part 11 of the conveying roll 1in a hot rolling line through grease, the state of the development of cracks in the roll neck part is inspected by using the probe 6 and the roll neck part is repaired on the basis of the result of the inspection. The grease forms a lubricating layer between the ultrasonic flaw detecting probe 6 and the tapered roll surface just under the probe 6, transmits an ultrasonic wave signal and also performs the role of lubrication for preventing the generation of wear and seizure by bringing the ultrasonic flaw detecting probe 6 to contact with the roll surface in the vicinity of the roll neck part 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
