PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that it is impossible to sufficiently discharge bubbles accumulated in a flow passage in order to drive pressure generating means of all nozzles by giving a uniform driving signal thereto while driving a sucking means. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus performs an operation to discharge liquid droplets from the nozzles 104 by causing a pressure variation (expansion or contraction of the internal capacity of a liquid chamber) in a liquid chamber 106 by providing a maintenance driving waveform to the piezoelectric element 121 of a recording head 34 while performing head suction to suck an ink by operating a suction pump 220 with the nozzle surface 34a of the recording head 34 capped by a sucking cap 82a. In this instance, the rows of the plurality of nozzles 104 in communication with one common liquid chamber 108 of the recording head 34 are divided into three blocks a, b, c, with the maintenance driving waveform provided by each block unit.
