<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of stably forming a high quality image over a long term by reliably cleaning a tip of a saw tooth whichever image is printed, a monochrome image or a color image, and to provide a control method therefor, a control program and a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming means for forming an image based on a monochrome print designation signal and a full color print designation signal; a needle electrode; a saw tooth holding member; a cleaning member; a cleaning member holder; a moving means; and a control means for controlling movement of the cleaning member holder in a saw tooth arranging direction. The control means controls moving frequency of the cleaning member holder based on the monochrome print designation signal and the full color print designation signal.
