<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent only one side of a paper sheet nonpassing part from being raised in temperature owing to a micro deviation of a longitudinal paper sheet passing position at the time of passing an A4-size paper sheet in a LTR machine, and thereby to reduce a damage onto a fixing member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The longitudinal paper sheet passing position of a recording material is acquired based on detection results provided in longitudinal different positions of a heating element or a fixing roller, and a pressure roller. A fixing device is moved in a longitudinal direction to make the paper sheet nonpassing part get to the same temperature in both sides thereof, based on the detection results.
