PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation of an object to be handled in a gripper and a manipulation system for holding and releasing the minute object under microscopic observation. SOLUTION: The gripper 1 includes a base 6, a temperature control means 2 mounted on the base 6, an object holding part 4 attached to the temperature control means 2, a temperature response polymer 5 provided on the object holding part 4, and a temperature detecting means 3 for detecting the temperature of the temperature response polymer 5. The temperature response polymer is a polymeric material for changing a structure in response to the temperature, and poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) is used. The temperature control means 2 holds the object held by the gripper 1 in the object holding part 4 or releases the object from the object holding part 4 by changing the temperature of the temperature response polymer 5.
