<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a use of a wireless LAN master unit diverse by a simple change such as a change of a program without complicating a device and to make an operating life of a product longer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A wireless LAN device 1 has a wired LAN port 2 and a wireless LAN port 3, and can operate as a wireless LAN master unit and a wireless LAN slave unit. The wireless LAN device 1 detects a packet of a predetermined protocol in a frame received from the wired LAN port 2 and/or the wireless LAN port 3, determines whether or not the device is in a master unit position or a slave unit position based on the received LAN ports 2 and 3 and a type of the received packet, and automatically performs a switchover between the wireless LAN master unit and the wireless LAN slave unit according to the determination result.
