<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more efficiently producing a ketone compound from an olefin compound, oxygen, and water. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a carbonyl compound is characterized by causing an olefin to react with molecular oxygen in the presence of a heteropolyanion, a palladium catalyst and an iron compound in an aqueous solution containing acetonitrile under a condition that the amount of an alkali metal in the reaction system is equal to or less than 1 gram atom per 1 mole of the heteropolyanion, and in the presence of an effective amount of a proton.
