<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip collecting device capable of enhancing a filling rate of chip into a collecting container and automatically working a machine tool over a long time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A relatively positional relation of the collecting container 5 in relation to a discharge port 4 of a chip carrying-out device 3 is fixed so that chip discharged from the discharge port 4 may fall in the collecting container 5 at a position which does not coincide with a rotation axis in an opening surface of the collecting container 5, and the collecting container 5 is rotated. This chip collecting device includes a chip compression device 29 for pressing the chip falling in the collecting container 5 from the discharge port 4 from the above of the collecting container 5.
