An active tag device comprises a wireless communication unit for wirelessly communicating with a data read/write device and a control unit for causing the wireless communication unit to perform data transmission at intervals of a first time period, in synchronization with the data transmission, starting measurement of a second time period set to determine the timing at which carrier sense to detect data output performed by the data read/write device, and causing the wireless communication unit to perform the carrier sense after a lapse of the second time period. The data read/write device comprises a wireless communication unit for wirelessly communicating with the active tag device and a control unit for starting measurement of a first time period set for synchronization with the carrier sense of the active tag device after the wireless communication unit detects data reception from the active tag device and causing the wireless communication unit to perform data transmission to the active tag device for a second time period after a lapse of the first time period.
