The system (10) has a front surface (86') cooperating with a seal head (48) that extends outside over a length (20) of a seal carrier (16). Another front surface (86 ') cooperates with another seal head (48 ') in order to fix an active seal length (20') of seal oriented relative to the seal carrier. The active seal length of the system is adjustable for compensating tolerances by changing the length of the seal carrier and/or by changing the length of the seal heads. The length of the seal carrier is changeable in certain length sections (42') of the seal carrier. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a sealing system for sealing a gap between two body parts within an area of a convertible top.
