<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system having reduced running cost and hardly decreasing output. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system includes a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) 10, a hydrogen supply means such as a hydrogen cylinder, and an air supply means such as a blower. The MEA 10 has an electrolyte membrane 11, a cathode electrode 13 joined to the electrolyte membrane 11 and to which air is supplied, and an anode electrode 12 joined to the other surface of the electrolyte membrane 11 and to which hydrogen is supplied. At least one of the cathode electrode and anode electrode has a substrate having gas permeability, and catalyst layers 13a, 12a formed on the surface on the electrolyte membrane 11 side of the substrate. The catalyst layers 13a, 12a include numberless catalyst carrying carbon particles 81 carrying a catalyst metal 81b on carbon powder 81a and a polymer electrolyte 82 in which the catalyst carrying carbon particles 81 are contacted and bonded each other and bonded to the substrate. A hydrophilic layer 72 is formed between the polymer electrolyte 82 and each catalyst carrying carbon particle 81 and the hydrophilic layer 72 is communicated with other hydrophilic layer 72. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
