<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cyclic aliphatic diamine having a trans-structure, useful as a raw material monomer for a polyurethane resin or a polyamide resin and as an intermediate of a raw material for pharmaceuticals and agrichemicals. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a cyclic aliphatic diamine having a trans-structure by imidizing a dihalogenated compound comprising a trans-structure and a cis-structure represented by formula (1) using an imide compound and subsequently subjecting the reaction product to a decomposition reaction, uses a basic compound in an amount of 1.0 to 10.0 moles relative to 1 mole of the dihalogenated compound having a cis-structure upon imidizing the above compound (in the formula, the dotted line represents a single bond or a double bond, Xs each independently represents a chlorine, a bromine, or an iodine atom, and n represents 0 or 1).
