PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-functional fuel additive including ferrocene and/or a ferrocene derivative that can be easily and stably dissolved in an additive or a fuel and significantly developing a combustion promotion effect. SOLUTION: The fuel additive contains a ferrocene-based component comprising ferrocene and/or a ferrocene derivative, lecithin, and an organic salt component comprising an organic nitrate and/or organic barium salt. The additive is divided into a solid component containing the ferrocene-based component and lecithin, and a liquid component containing the organic salt component; and the additive contains 1-20 mass% of the solid component and 80-99 mass% of the liquid component. The additive is used in such a manner that, in a fuel, the concentration of the ferrocene-based component ranges from 1 to 50 ppm, the concentration of lecithin ranges from 0.01 to 400 ppm, the concentration of the organic nitrate ranges from 1 to 4,200 ppm and/or the concentration of the organic barium salt ranges from 0.15 to 630 ppm in terms of Ba.
