The converter has cylindrical and rotatably supported reaction parts separated from an excitation part (ET) by an air gap. A permanent magnet (M) has ends surrounded in intermediate regions of conductive material. Dimensions of the magnet are selected such that thickness is greater than twice the air gap and length is greater than twice the length of half pole pitch. An auxiliary poles (Vm, Vs) guide magnetic flux to interaction areas of the permanent magnet of the reaction part with conductive connection paths through small air gaps.
