摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately set the timing of an intake valve, which is locked to be the slowest timing by a locking mechanism when automatically starting an engine, as a target timing. <P>SOLUTION: When the engine 32 is automatically started, a cranking rotating speed Nstart is set to be such a value that a predetermined rotating speed Nset is added to a target rotating speed Ne* of the engine 32, to start the cranking of the engine 32 with a motor 41 (S100). After a rotating speed Ne of the engine 32 ranges from the cranking rotating speed Nstart into a predetermined margin &alpha;, the target timing corresponding to the target operation points (the target rotating speed and target torque) of the engine 32 is set to be a command opening/closing timing VVT* as an opening/closing timing of the intake value 128 (S110-S130).
