PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanning endoscope with adjustable scanning area and scanning speed. SOLUTION: The optical scanning endoscope comprises an illumination fiber 53, a fiber actuator unit 61, an advancing and retreating motor 62, a rigid tube 63, a fiber supporter 64, and first and second worm gears 66a and 66b. The rigid tube 63 is mounted at the distal end of an insertion tube of the endoscope. The fiber actuator unit 61 is fixed inside the rigid tube 63. The fiber actuator unit 61 bends on the emission end side of the insertion tube. The fiber supporter 64 is secured to the fiber actuator unit 61. The fiber supporter 64 supports the illumination fiber 53 so that the fiber displaces in the first direction. The second worm gear 66b is arranged around the illumination fiber 53. The first and second worm gears 66a and 66b mesh together. The advancing and retreating motor 62 rotates the second worm gear 66b via the first worm gear 66a.
