<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of easily discriminating a selected original table to be used, after the original table to be used is selected by a user operation, or when an operation to select the original table is performed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes a plurality of original tables 15 and 16 where originals are mounted; a feed roller 5 for opening and closing a feed opening for the original on the original table 15 by a turning operation; and a pickup roller 2 for opening and closing a paper feed opening for the original on the original table 16 by an turning operation, and a control means of controlling the opening operation of the feed roller 5 or pickup roller 2 so as to open the feed opening or paper feed opening for the original on the selected original table and close the feed opening or paper-feed opening for the original on the unselected original table, on the basis of information on the original table selected from the plurality of original tables 15 and 16 by user operation.
