PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a human body detection device for surely detecting a human body even when detecting a human body which is viewed in different ways in a range image depending on the detection position. SOLUTION: The human body detection device A includes: a gradient image generation means 3 for determining the distance gradient direction of each pixel from the distance value of a range image obtained by imaging a detection space R, and for generating a gradient direction image by using a gradient direction value as a pixel value; a reference gradient direction image storage means 4 for storing a plurality of reference gradient direction images obtained by differentiating a plurality of reference range images which are obtained in advance and shows how a predetermined human body model located in a plurality of detection positions in the detection space R is viewed; and an evaluation means 5 for calculating the degree of similarity showing correlation between the gradient direction image generated by the gradient image generation means 3 and the reference gradient direction image read from a reference gradient direction image storage means 4 according to the detection position in the gradient direction image, and for evaluating the degree of matching with the reference gradient direction image based on the degree of similarity.
