<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems over a conventional rice polisher that: although it is desirable to classify the whiteness degree of rice stepwise and in detail and to make the whiteness degree classifications selectable, the detailed classification of the preset value for the whiteness degree necessitates the arrangement of many selector switches, thus complicating the constitution of the device and increasing a manufacturing cost; and further, alternatively the designing of a touch panel-type display screen made up of operating items and preset items would pose the risks of marring the display screen by a user. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The whiteness degree setting device includes a whiteness degree display part (3), which can consecutively display the preset values of the whiteness degree from a minimum value position to a maximum value position, on the liquid crystal display screen (2) of the rice polisher (1). Outside the liquid crystal display screen (2), a selector switch (4) for setting the whiteness degree, is arranged and the selector switch (4) is configured to select the preset value from the high whiteness degree to the low whiteness degree, or vice versa, and this preset value is shown on the whiteness degree display screen (3).
