The invention relates to a fuel cell system having a starting heater (34) for heating a coolant during a cold start. According to the invention, the heat provided by the starting heater (34) is used for heating further components during a cold start. The further components can be a metering valve (16) through which hydrogen is fed to a fuel, a precipitator for water on the anode side, or a pump (26) for feeding unconsumed hydrogen into a feed line (14), or arbitrary lines (14, 18, 40a, 40b, 40c) can be heated by the starting heater (34). The components can be integrated in an end plate of a fuel cell stack.
