PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more efficiently producing a carbonyl compound from an olefin compound, oxygen, and water. SOLUTION: The method for producing a carbonyl compound corresponding to an olefin is characterized by causing the olefin to react with molecular oxygen in a water-containing liquid phase comprising, (1) a palladium catalyst, (2) a heteropolyacid comprising a heteropolyanion represented by formula [X<SB>a</SB>M<SB>b</SB>M'<SB>c</SB>O<SB>d</SB>]<SP>n-</SP>(in the formula, X represents an element selected from P, Si and S; (a) represents an integer of 1 or 2; M and M' each represents an element selected from Mo, W, Ta and Nb; b and c are each an integer of 0 or greater; and d represents an integer of at least 1), (3) a vanadium compound, and (4) a phosphorus compound and/or a basic material.
