<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid alkyl ester, producible in high purity, in high conversion, under a low environmental burden process, and at low cost, and having a low cloud point, low pour point and low clogging point, and non-solidifying even at low ambient temperatures, and to provide a diesel fuel produced by the method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the fatty acid alkyl ester includes: conducting a transesterification, in the presence of a phosphoric acid alkali metal salt, between a 1-4C alcohol and an oil-and-fat in which the compositional ratio of a ≥14C higher saturated fatty acid is ≤40 mol%, the higher saturated fatty acid includes palmitic acid and stearic acid, and the total composition ratio of the palmitic acid and the stearic acid is ≤30 mol%.
