<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a high-density recordable magnetic disk simply and inexpensively. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A soft magnetic metal glass layer 44, disposed on an upper surface of a substrate 110, maintains a structure similar to an amorphous structure without crystallization even when being heated and then gradually cooled in thermal imprinting, and as a result, a pattern is formed on the soft magnetic metal glass layer 44 with thermal imprinting without thermally influencing it. Consequently, a discrete track medium (DTM) and a patterned medium (PM), with which recording corresponding to the pattern formed with thermal imprinting is feasible, are manufactured without performing processes such as etching and ashing (that is, without preparing equipment for performing these processes), the magnetic disk with which high density recording is feasible is manufactured with simplicity and at a low cost.
