<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To complete warming-up as the whole engine early by promoting temperature rise of a cylinder head by appropriate cooling of the cylinder head during warming-up of the engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: As a water jacket within the engine, a head-side jacket part Jh and a block-side jacket part Jb are formed respectively on a cylinder head 1 and a cylinder block 2. During warming-up of the engine, flow of cooling water in the block-side jacket part Jb is interrupted to stay cooling water within the cylinder block 2, while cooling water is circulated through the head-side jacket part Jh. While the flow of cooling water in the block-side jacket part Jb is interrupted, the flow rate (head internal flow rate) Qwh of cooling water flowing in the head-side jacket part Jh is limited.
