Provided is a control device for controlling an internal combustion engine of the spark-ignition type having an in-cylinder pressure sensor. The control device can stably control the combustion state by adjusting the ignition timing. The control device sets an ignition timing in accordance with a target value of a predetermined combustion parameter having a correlation with the combustion state and operates an ignition device of the internal combustion engine according to the set ignition timing. Moreover, the control device calculates an actual combustion parameter value based on an output value from an in-cylinder pressure sensor and feeds the calculated value back to the ignition timing setting. Simultaneously with the aforementioned process, the control device calculates a value of a predetermined combustion fluctuation parameter having a correlation with the combustion fluctuation degree from the output value of the in-cylinder pressure sensor. If the calculated value of the combustion fluctuation parameter is out of an allowance of the combustion fluctuation, the control device stops the feedback of the calculated value of the combustion parameter.
