A lens driving device having a substantially rectangular shape when viewed in the optical axis direction of a lens can be reduced in size even if the lens has a large diameter. A driving mechanism for driving a movable body which moves in the optical axis direction together with a lens is provided with: substantially triangular pole-shaped driving magnet sections (17) arranged at the four corners of a lens driving device (1) formed in a substantially rectangular shape; driving coils (18) wound in a substantially triangular tube-like shape and having inner peripheral surfaces disposed so as to face the outer peripheral surfaces of the driving magnet sections (17); and coil protecting members (20, 21) mounted to the driving coils (18) on the object side thereof and on the side opposite the object side. The driving magnet sections (17) are magnetized so that magnetic fluxes passing through the driving coils (18) are generated at positions at which the driving magnet sections (17) face the driving coils (18). When viewed in the optical axis direction, the outer ends of the coil protecting members (20, 21) in the X-direction and the outer ends of the coil protecting members (20, 21) in the Y-direction project further outward in the X-direction or the Y-direction than the outer surfaces of the driving coils (18).
