PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain real time display of large scale volume data on PC environment. SOLUTION: In a method of real time rendering of the volume data, first resolution of each block is determined by LOD (level of detail) control; and when a block with the first resolution does not exist in a main memory, a block with second lower resolution is prepared as a backup block. In each frame, a reading request of the block with the first resolution which becomes necessary in drawing of the next frame and which does not exist on the main memory is performed from an external storage device to the main memory, and a backup block corresponding to the requested block with the first resolution is read from the external storage device to the main memory by giving priority over the block with the first resolution. In the drawing, the block with the first resolution or the backup block is read from the main memory to a texture memory to be drawn so that chipping of the drawing is not generated in each frame.
