<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever device for a vehicle for restraining a shift lever from exceeding the N position due to too much force, and reaching the R position when the shift lever located at the D position is operated to the N position. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The shift lever device 10 includes the shift lever 20 provided with a detent pin 23 moving downward when a knob button 22a is operated, and a detent plate 30 regulating shift operation of the shift lever 20 by abutting to the detent pin 23 when the shift lever 20 is shifted from the N position to the R position without operating the knob button 22a, and allows the shift lever 20 to shift without abutting on the detent pin 23 when the shift lever 20 is shifted from the D position to the N position without operating the knob button 22a.
