Provided is a process for preparing a bisphenol stably at a high conversion and with high selectivity over a long period. A process for preparing a bisphenol by feeding both a phenol compound and a carbonyl compound continuously to a reactor filled with an acid catalyst, characterized in that the acid catalyst is a sulfonic acid-type cation-exchange resin wherein some of the sulfonic acid groups are modified with at least one compound selected from among 2-pyridylalkanethiols and 3-pyridyl- alkanethiols.
