<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search for a motion vector in a highly precise manner while reducing operations required to search for the motion vector. <P>SOLUTION: A moving image encoding apparatus has a primary searching means for performing a simple search using a reduced image derived by decoding an encoded image and a secondary searching means for performing a more detailed search, and includes a first reduced image forming means for forming a first reduced image derived by decoding an encoded image, a second reduced image forming means for forming a second reduced image with the same reduction ratio as that of the first reduced image from an input image signal, and a determining means for determining whether the simple search can be performed using the first reduced image or not. The apparatus performs adaptive switching to search the motion vector by using the first reduced image if it is determined that the simple search can be performed by using the first reduced image, or by using the second reduced image if it is determined that the simple search cannot be performed by using the first reduced image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
