<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool body detection system and tool body detection method of a rotating tool for saving time and enhancing machining efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The tool body detection system used for detection of the tool body of a rotating tool mounted on a numerical control machine includes: a laser sensor equipped with an emitter that emits laser in the first frequency and a receiver that receives the laser from the emitter; and a controller that records the position of the tool body as the first position at the instance when the frequency of the laser received by the receiver is smaller than the first frequency, records the position of the tool body as the second position at the instance of zero, and decides whether the tool body is centered off or not based on the difference of the coordinate values between the first position and second position of the tool body, while the tool body is moving up and down between the emitter and the receiver.
