PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a change payment apparatus and change payment method for flexibly responding to payment to a customer at every change payment according to a request by the customer. SOLUTION: The change payment apparatus 11 has a plurality of different predetermined return methods. Every time change amount as the difference between the amount received and purchase price is calculated during transaction adjustment, a return method selecting section 14, in response to an instruction from the customer, selects at least two return methods to be used for the change payment from the plurality of return methods. Then, a change amount separation section 15 divides the amount of change into return amounts to be returned for each of the selected return methods.
