PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device with a scanning electrode driving circuit which generates a voltage for generating a scanning pulse by using a small number of compact parts while ensuring sufficient safety. SOLUTION: The plasma display device includes: a panel with a plurality of discharge cells each having a pair of display electrodes composed of a scanning electrode and a sustain electrode; a sustain pulse generating circuit for generating a sustain pulse to be applied to the scanning electrode; a scanning pulse generating circuit for generating a scanning pulse to be applied to the scanning electrode; a first electric power supply circuit 47 for generating a voltage of the higher voltage side of the sustain pulse; a second electric power supply circuit 71 for generating a voltage of the lower voltage side of the scanning pulse; a third electric power supply circuit 73 which is superimposed on an output of the second electric power supply circuit 71 and generates a voltage of the higher voltage side of the scanning pulse; and an abnormal voltage detecting circuit 76 for detecting that an output voltage of the third electric power supply circuit 73 does not fall into the a prescribed voltage range.
