A microfluidic device (1) comprises a structured substrate (2a,2b), which includes a fluid receiving and/or transporting structure (3a,3b). A microporous membrane (5) is also included, where the microporous membrane is connected with the structured substrate for incorporation or transport of a fluid. The microporous membrane is a microfilter with a hierarchical structure. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing microfluidic device, which includes: (A) forming receiving and/or transporting structure in substrate; and (B) applying and joining microporous membrane with the structured substrate.
