The device (100) has a transfer table (106) provided upstream of a freeze-drying apparatus (102) for temporary accommodation of vials. A shifting device shifts the vials from the transfer table to an adjusting plate (104) or from the adjusting plate to the transfer table, and two side limits (110, 112) comprise elements e.g. belts, that are movable with low friction by the striking vials, where the belts are held via two vertically arranged deflection rollers. A support roller is provided between the deflection rollers.
