Method for cooperative classification of IP traffic flows

The method involves identifying applications e.g. peer-to-peer applications, in a traffic i.e. Internet protocol (IP) traffic, within an Internet protocol communication network (1) i.e. edge network, based on characterization attributes. The identified applications are collected and digitally processed, and the processed applications are broadcasted to internal nodes (12) of the network for performing cooperative classification of the traffic within the network. An independent claim is also included for an edge network comprising a sub-assembly of nodes.
