A pair of annular inserts (10) of elastomeric material is circumf erentially applied by spiralling around a laying surface of the auxiliary drum. Then a plurality of strip-like elements (20) disposed parallelly in side by side relationship to each other in the circumferential extension of said laying surface (21) is applied onto the auxiliary drum, so as to form at least one first belt layer (7a). Respectively opposite end portions (20a) of each strip-like element (20) are radially superposed, each against one of the annular inserts (10), so that each of said annular inserts projects from a respective end edge of the strip-like element. The cap structure formed on the auxiliary drum is coupled to a carcass structure (2a), through toroidal conformation of the latter, in such a manner that the radially external ends (24a) of sidewall portions (24) previously manufactured on the carcass plies are associated with the axially external ends (10a) of said annular inserts (10). |
