<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode/decode a stereo signal so as to suppress noise generation and to interconnect with a monophonic signal communication terminal with high encoded signal quality. <P>SOLUTION: In an MS stereo system, a sum signal is generated from two input signals of left and right channels, this sum signal is encoded, and a monophonic signal encoded stream is generated and outputted. Furthermore, a stereo region to encode a differential signal is determined based on the correlation (similarity) of signals of the left and right channels, the differential signal is encoded in the stereo region, and a stereo signal encoded string is outputted. In reconstitution of signals of the left and right channels, the signals of the left and right channels are reconstituted based on the differential signal and the sum signal subjected to monophonic/stereo signal decoding processing, in the stereo region and based on a sum signal subjected to monophonic signal decoding processing is performed, in any region other than the stereo region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
