[Also in Group XXXV] In an automatic space temperature control system (see Group XXXV) variations in temperature may be detected by a thermal switch, one element of which is responsive to radiation and convection and acts in opposition to another element responsive to convection so that the effect of convection is reduced. In Fig. 4, fluid in a " black " bulb 72 is responsive to radiation and convection and fluid in a polished bulb 78 is responsive to convection only by virtue of a slotted shield 69. Bellows 73, 71, responsive to expansion and contraction of the fluid in bulbs 72, 78 respectively, apply forces to a lever 74, pivoted at 75, which operates a switch 76 to correct the temperature when it deviates from a value determined by the setting of a screw 79. In a modification, Fig. 5, a bimetal strip 90 is responsive to radiation and convection and a bimetal strip 84 is responsive to convection only by virtue of a slotted shield 82. The two bimetal strips which are joined at 89 and pivoted at 85 operate a switch 83 to correct the temperature when it deviates from a value determined by the setting of a screw 88 operating a cam 87.</p> |
